Providence, RI – Windy conditions are already sweeping across Rhode Island Monday and will ramp up through the day, making for tough travel on I-95 and other exposed routes. Drivers should brace for gusts up to 30 mph, with peak winds hitting the Providence metro through late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, sustained winds from the north will range from 15 to 17 mph today, with isolated gusts up to 30 mph. That breezy pattern will hold through Monday night with lighter winds continuing into early Tuesday. Tuesday remains dry for most of the day, but clouds will increase by evening as rain chances rise.

Rain returns Tuesday night, with a 20% chance of showers after midnight increasing to 30% by Wednesday morning. The wettest day arrives Wednesday night, with a 70% chance of showers expected after 1 a.m. Northeastern winds could bring cooler air, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 40s.

By Thursday, widespread showers will keep high temperatures around 52°F in Providence, making it feel more like early spring than late May. Showers could linger into Thursday night before tapering off by Friday.
