PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island’s crisp, sunny weekend will give way to a gusty and damp start to the new week, as a cold front pushes showers and strong winds into the area by Monday. Drivers using I-95, Route 146, and coastal parkways should prepare for slower travel and possible ponding on roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, Massachusetts, rain will spread into southern New England Sunday night and continue into Monday. Some areas could see brief downpours, especially around the morning commute. Southeast winds will increase to 25–30 mph with gusts near 40 mph along the coast. Temperatures will hold in the mid-60s Monday before falling slightly as drier air moves in Monday night.

Residents should secure Halloween decorations, trash bins, and lightweight outdoor furniture before winds pick up. Power flickers are possible near Narragansett Bay and exposed coastal areas. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation advises giving extra stopping distance on slick pavement and checking for early-morning delays.

Tuesday brings a return to bright, breezy sunshine, followed by another round of scattered showers midweek. Leaf-peepers will enjoy colorful, rain-washed foliage under partly sunny skies Tuesday and Wednesday before cooler, crisper air settles in late week.

Overall, the third week of October brings a mix of classic New England fall moods—warm afternoons, chilly mornings, and quick bursts of wind and rain signaling the seasonal shift ahead.
