Rhode Island is starting mild but unsettled, and across Providence, clouds are thickening as rain pushes in, turning roads slick and visibility uneven through the late morning. Drivers are already noticing damp pavement and light spray along I-95 and Route 6.

According to the National Weather Service, showers increase through the day with a 70% chance of rain and patchy fog developing before midday, followed by periods of heavier showers and possible thunderstorms later.

Across Providence and Kent County, temperatures climb toward the upper 60s, creating a brief warm window before steadier rain takes over. Expect reduced visibility during heavier bursts, especially near the downtown corridor and along I-195. Plan extra time and keep headlights on during rain.

Showers continue into the evening and remain likely into Wednesday, when rain coverage increases again to around 60%. By Wednesday night, temperatures fall sharply into the upper 30s, bringing a colder, damp feel and the potential for slick spots on untreated surfaces inland.

Thursday turns noticeably cooler, with highs only in the low 40s and lingering rain chances. The combination of wet ground and colder air will make for raw conditions, especially during early and late travel periods.

A gradual improvement arrives Friday with drier skies and highs rebounding into the low 60s. Into the first weekend of April, milder air returns, though scattered showers remain possible.
