Providence, R.I. – Travelers along I-95 through Providence should brace for stormy conditions and potential downpours by Wednesday night, with rain sticking around into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, a round of thunderstorms is likely after 2 a.m. Thursday, following an afternoon of increasing clouds and a slight chance of showers Wednesday after 2 p.m. Temperatures will climb to 71°F before storms roll in, with winds shifting southeast at 5 to 9 mph.

By early Thursday, expect continued showers and possible thunderstorms—especially before 7 a.m. Conditions will remain wet into the afternoon with a 60% chance of precipitation. Those planning to commute or travel Thursday morning should allow extra time, especially along I-95, Route 6, and other major routes through central Rhode Island.

Friday brings a brief break in the rain, with partly sunny skies and a high near 78°F, but another chance of showers arrives by evening. Rain risks will persist through Sunday, with highs hovering in the low to mid-70s.
