Providence, Rhode Island – Weekend plans in Rhode Island may need adjusting as thunderstorms, patchy fog, and rising humidity threaten to disrupt travel across the state Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible after 2 p.m. Saturday, with heavier pockets of rain expected along I-95 and major routes in Providence. Winds could gust up to 8 mph from the south, while visibility may be limited due to fog developing between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Drivers should slow down, use headlights, and plan for delays if traveling during that window.

Friday will remain mostly dry, with morning clouds giving way to sun and highs near 72°F. However, conditions shift quickly Friday night, with showers returning after midnight and increasing Saturday. Rainfall may total a quarter inch or more in isolated storms.

Sunday offers some relief, with a lower 20% chance of rain before 11 a.m., then clearing skies and a warmer high near 77°F. By Monday, sunny and dry weather returns with a high of 83°F, followed by a summer surge Tuesday and Wednesday with highs reaching 87°F.

Stay weather-aware through the weekend, and avoid non-essential travel during peak storm hours Saturday. Updates will be issued if storm coverage increases.
