Providence, Rhode Island – Showers and thunderstorms could disrupt travel across Rhode Island by late Saturday morning, bringing a spring weekend weather alert for drivers on I-95 and beyond.

According to the National Weather Service, a slight chance of showers arrives after 1 p.m. Friday, followed by a higher likelihood of rain and isolated thunderstorms between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. Patchy fog may linger through late morning, creating additional hazards. Expect cloudy skies and highs in the low 70s. Rainfall amounts could exceed a tenth of an inch during downpours.

Providence and surrounding areas, including Cranston, Warwick, and Pawtucket, should prepare for wet roads and low visibility during Saturday’s midday hours. Calm winds will pick up slightly, with gusts up to 9 mph. Use caution on the roads, especially near on-ramps and underpasses, where pooling water can accumulate quickly.

The system clears out by late Saturday night, giving way to clear skies and sunshine on Sunday with highs in the low 70s and a steady west wind. Sunday night will be partly cloudy, leading into a mostly sunny Monday and cooler start to the new week.
