PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A quiet Saturday in Rhode Island will give way to a wetter, more unsettled Sunday with showers and thunderstorms possible by afternoon. Travelers along I-95 through Providence may face slower commutes Sunday night as downpours develop.

According to the National Weather Service, clouds will increase late tonight with a chance of showers after 3 a.m. Sunday. Thunderstorms are possible after 2 p.m., with brief heavy rain and gusty winds in spots. The chance of precipitation stands at 30 percent during the day and rises to 50 percent by evening.

Daytime highs Sunday should reach the low 80s, but increased humidity will make it feel warmer. Southwest winds may also create slick conditions on coastal roads during storms. Residents should avoid unnecessary travel during downpours and keep devices charged in case of brief power interruptions.

Conditions improve Monday morning, though another round of showers is possible between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Overnight lows will dip into the low 60s, providing some relief. By Tuesday, sunshine returns with highs in the upper 70s, marking the start of a cooler, drier stretch.

Wednesday and Thursday both look sunny, with highs holding in the mid to upper 70s. Nights will be comfortably cool, dropping into the mid-50s.

Rhode Islanders should plan for storm impacts Sunday and stay alert for additional advisories. Fairer weather dominates most of next week.
