Providence, Rhode Island – Rain could slow down your weekend plans Saturday in Rhode Island, but clearer skies and early summer warmth are just ahead.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and isolated thunderstorms will hit Providence and much of Rhode Island Saturday morning through early afternoon. Rain chances peak at 80%, especially before 11 a.m., with patchy fog before 10 a.m. Southeast winds will shift southwest later in the day, keeping temperatures mild with a high near 69°F. If you’re driving on I-95 or Route 6, expect reduced visibility and slick roads through midday.

By Saturday night, the chance of rain drops to 50%, mainly after 8 p.m., with lows dipping to 52°F. Sunday kicks off a dramatic shift: mostly sunny skies, lighter winds, and a high of 66°F. West winds will pick up slightly—gusting up to 13 mph—but the dry conditions should make for a pleasant start to June.

Looking Ahead: A Five-Day Preview

  • Monday (June 2): Mostly sunny, high near 72°F.
  • Tuesday (June 3): Sunny, high near 75°F.
  • Wednesday (June 4): Sunny and warmer, high near 79°F.
  • Thursday (June 5): Mostly sunny, highs reach 76°F.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires may slightly reduce visibility early next week, but no major air quality alerts are expected in Providence.

Prepare for summer mode: With the rain out of the way, now’s the time to clean up the yard, check AC units, and enjoy the seasonal shift.
