PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island enjoys one more stretch of dry, sunny weather this weekend before a shift brings rain and slower commutes. By Tuesday night, showers may push into the Providence area, creating slick conditions for drivers along I-95.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, Saturday and Sunday will stay mostly sunny with highs near 70 in Providence and surrounding towns. Winds remain light, giving Rhode Islanders an ideal window for outdoor plans before unsettled weather develops midweek.

Monday offers another warm, bright day with highs in the lower 70s. Clouds build late Monday night, signaling the arrival of a stronger system. By Tuesday afternoon, temperatures could climb to near 80 degrees in Providence, but showers and breezy winds are expected overnight, reducing visibility and making highways hazardous.

Motorists traveling on I-95, Route 6, and other major corridors should plan for slower travel times after sunset Tuesday. Wet pavement and increased traffic volume may lead to delays during evening commutes. Residents should keep umbrellas and rain gear handy, and charge devices in case of brief power interruptions.

While no watches or warnings are in effect yet, the National Weather Service advises Rhode Islanders to monitor updates as the week begins. More unsettled weather remains possible into Wednesday and Thursday.
