Providence, Rhode Island – Dry conditions are raising brush fire concerns across Rhode Island as rainfall trends up to 0.20 inches below normal and mild spring temperatures take hold through Sunday, April 12th.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Rhode Island will remain in a below-normal precipitation pattern during this stretch, with limited chances for widespread rainfall. Temperatures are expected to run slightly above average, especially heading into the weekend, accelerating the drying of vegetation.

Across Providence, Kent, and Washington counties, leaf litter and dry brush are becoming increasingly flammable. Fire officials warn that burning leaves or yard debris could quickly spark fires, particularly in wooded areas and along major corridors such as I-95, Route 6, and Route 4. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use extreme caution with any open flames.

In Providence and surrounding metro areas, the dry and mild pattern will support increased outdoor activity, travel, and early spring events. Warwick and Cranston will also see favorable conditions for construction and recreation, though afternoon breezes may increase the risk of fire spread.

This pattern is expected to persist through April 12th, with additional fire weather alerts possible if dry conditions continue and winds increase.
