Providence, R.I. – Drivers along Rhode Island’s shoreline could encounter flooded roadways Friday morning and evening as a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect for Providence, Bristol and Kent counties. Minor flooding is expected along vulnerable coastal roads during high tide cycles.
According to the National Weather Service in Norton, the advisory extends until 10 a.m. Friday for the morning tide and again from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday evening. Forecasters warn that water levels could rise one to two feet above normal, especially in areas such as Narragansett Bay and Mount Hope Bay.
Low-lying roads, parking lots and coastal parks are most at risk of flooding, with some closures likely during peak tide hours. Residents are urged to avoid driving through standing water and to plan for extra travel time near the shoreline.
Friday otherwise brings fair weather with sunny skies and highs near 80 degrees. Conditions remain calm into Saturday before a shift brings unsettled weather. Showers and thunderstorms are possible by Sunday, with rain chances lingering into Monday.
The flood advisory will expire Friday night, but additional advisories could be issued if high tides align with unsettled weather early next week.
