PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Islanders will enjoy sunshine Tuesday before a midweek stretch of showers brings slick commutes and damp evenings from Wednesday into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, skies stay partly sunny Tuesday with highs near 75 degrees. Clouds increase Tuesday night as winds shift from the southeast, setting up scattered showers by Wednesday morning. Rain is expected to be most widespread Wednesday night, with a 40 percent chance of precipitation and localized downpours possible.

Drivers around Providence, Warwick, and Cranston should be prepared for wet roads during the Wednesday evening rush, with conditions lingering into early Thursday. Winds will remain light, but commuters are advised to allow extra time and avoid standing water on roadways. By Thursday afternoon, skies will clear and temperatures will climb back into the low 70s.

The second half of the week turns brighter, with mostly sunny skies Friday and highs near 77. Temperatures will rise into the 80s this weekend, setting up warm, dry conditions for outdoor plans.
