Providence, Rhode Island – Wet pavement and a stiff breeze are keeping the city on alert today as scattered light showers and gusty winds move through the area. Drivers heading out this afternoon could run into slick stretches on I-95, Route 6 and local bridges before conditions improve later in the day.

According to the National Weather Service, Providence will reach about 70 degrees today with a slight chance of showers and southwest wind gusts as high as 31 mph. Skies turn quieter tonight, then temperatures climb sharply to 78 on Tuesday and 83 by Wednesday, when another slight shower chance returns.

That swing matters for daily life across Providence, Warwick, Cranston and Pawtucket. Roads may stay damp through parts of today, especially in shaded spots and during brief bursts of rain. Wind can also push around lighter vehicles and make it harder for drivers on exposed ramps and overpasses.

By Tuesday, the feel changes fast. The air turns milder, the sun comes out more often and afternoon conditions become far more springlike. Then by Wednesday, warmer air peaks while a passing shower cannot be ruled out, especially later in the day.

Thursday eases back slightly, with highs in the mid-70s under mostly cloudy skies. The broader pattern stays unsettled into late week, so residents should expect occasional shower chances and changing skies rather than a fully dry stretch.

Five Day Forecast for Providence, Rhode Island

Tuesday: High 78, mostly sunny
Wednesday: High 83, mostly sunny with a slight chance of showers
Thursday: High 74, mostly cloudy
