Rhode Island – Damp air and low clouds are already clinging to the ground this morning, and visibility is dropping in spots as showers begin to move into the Providence area.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances climb to 50 percent through the day, with patchy fog reducing visibility at times and rainfall totals reaching up to a quarter inch . Winds remain light, but the combination of moisture and fog will create slow travel conditions across the region.

This system connects to a broader spring pattern stretching into the Northeast, where waves of rain and pockets of colder air continue to cycle through. Temperatures in Providence will reach near 72 degrees before falling sharply tonight into the upper 30s, setting up a colder, damp feel by early Thursday.

Across Providence, Cranston, and Pawtucket, drivers should expect slick conditions along I-95, I-195, and Route 6. Fog may thicken during the morning commute, then linger into the evening as additional showers develop. Plan extra time, keep headlights on, and increase following distance on wet roads.

Showers become more widespread tonight with a 70 percent chance of rain and areas of fog developing again. By Thursday, cooler air arrives with highs near 42 degrees and continued chances for showers.

Conditions improve slightly Friday with mostly cloudy skies and highs in the low 60s, followed by a brighter and milder Saturday near 69 degrees. Showers return late in the weekend, which could affect early Easter travel plans.
