Providence, R.I. – Cooler air is set to sweep into Rhode Island just after Labor Day, hinting at fall with crisp overnight lows. Families heading outdoors this holiday weekend can expect sunny skies, but plan for jackets after sunset as temperatures dip into the low 50s.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, Labor Day itself looks mostly sunny with highs in the upper 70s. Light winds will keep conditions comfortable for barbecues, beach trips, and travelers along I-95. By Monday night, however, overnight lows will fall to the low 50s, with parts of northern Rhode Island slipping into the upper 40s by midweek.

Tuesday continues the trend with sunshine and highs near 77, but the region feels the push of September cool air as nights stay crisp. By Wednesday, temperatures rebound slightly, topping out near 79 under sunny skies, while nights remain refreshing.

The cooler pattern extends across much of the Northeast, in contrast to warmer-than-average conditions forecast for the West. Rhode Islanders should prepare for shorter evenings and keep an eye on conditions if planning late-night drives or outdoor gatherings.

Stay weather-aware this week, as the first taste of fall sweeps through New England. More advisories may follow if temperatures dip further into the 40s.
