Providence, R.I. – Drivers and beachgoers in Rhode Island should prepare for rising heat and clear skies Sunday, with highs near 87°F expected across Providence and surrounding towns.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday, June 29, will bring mostly sunny skies and dry conditions, making it the warmest and most comfortable day of the weekend. Northwest winds between 6 to 9 mph will help offset the rising heat. Conditions remain ideal through Monday, with 89°F highs and calmer wind gusts.

By Tuesday, however, the pattern changes. Showers may begin after 2 p.m., followed by thunderstorms between 2 and 5 p.m., particularly along I-195 and Route 6. Rainfall totals could exceed a quarter inch in some areas. Localized flooding and traffic slowdowns are possible during the evening commute.

Tuesday night remains stormy, with a 40% chance of thunderstorms continuing until 11 p.m. Temperatures stay warm in the low 70s, raising humidity and discomfort for overnight workers and residents without air conditioning.

Relief arrives by midweek: Wednesday through the 4th of July looks mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 80s. July 4th festivities around Providence, Warwick, and Newport should see dry skies and calm southwest winds — excellent for fireworks, cookouts, and coastal plans.

Prepare for unstable weather early this week, and take advantage of the clear, hot holiday ahead. The next update will follow Monday morning if storm threats intensify.
