PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A stretch of near-perfect fall weather will give way to a wet, breezy finish as showers return to Rhode Island by late Sunday. Warm sunshine dominates through Saturday, but a developing system over the Mid-Atlantic will lift northward, bringing widespread rain to the Ocean State before dawn Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, Massachusetts, the rain will arrive Sunday night with a 60 percent chance of precipitation, increasing to 70 percent Monday. Winds may gust near 25 mph along I-95 and coastal routes, creating slick travel conditions for commuters and event-goers wrapping up their weekend plans. Residents should secure lightweight outdoor decorations and allow extra time for Monday morning drives as wet leaves may reduce traction on roadways.

Saturday remains ideal for fall outings, from pumpkin patches to coastal hikes, with highs near 63°F under clear skies. Sunday starts mostly sunny before clouds increase through the afternoon, followed by rain and a south breeze at 10 to 15 mph. Monday will stay damp and breezy before drier air returns by Tuesday.

According to NWS forecasters, temperatures remain seasonable through midweek, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. Another weak system could bring spotty showers by Tuesday night. For now, the weekend’s first half looks tailor-made for outdoor plans, while late Sunday brings the season’s first real taste of unsettled fall weather.
