Boston, MA – Relentless heat will grip Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut through Friday, with heat indices soaring above 100° in many communities and prompting urgent health and safety warnings.

According to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton, heat index values are forecast to reach 95–105° each afternoon from Tuesday through Friday, with the most dangerous conditions expected Wednesday and Thursday. Cities including Worcester, Springfield, Boston, Hartford, and Providence will face the highest risk, while southeastern Massachusetts and the Cape may see slightly lower, but still uncomfortable, indices near 90–95°.

The prolonged stretch of dangerous heat is set to impact daily routines, with area schools and employers urged to consider flexible schedules. Travel could be affected on I-90, I-95, and Route 2, especially for those without access to air conditioning. Power grids may be strained as residents crank up cooling systems. Emergency management officials advise staying indoors during peak afternoon hours, hydrating frequently, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers are open in most cities, and pets should never be left in vehicles.

This multi-day heat event marks one of the most significant stretches of high humidity and heat so far this summer, rivaling events from July 2022. Relief may arrive by Saturday, but additional advisories or warnings are likely before then.

Warnings remain in effect through Friday. Stay tuned for further updates and consider limiting outdoor activities until temperatures drop.
