Rensselaer, Indiana — The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a suspected drug trafficking incident involving a Wheatfield woman and an inmate housed at the Jasper County Jail, according to a press release issued by the department.

On or about January 9, 2026, investigators received information from the Rensselaer City Police Department regarding a possible trafficking scheme. The investigation identified 37-year-old Roxanne Mancilla of Wheatfield, Indiana, along with an inmate currently incarcerated at the Jasper County Jail, as persons of interest in the case.

Authorities report that recorded phone calls, electronic messages, and physical evidence were obtained during the investigation. Evidence was reportedly located at the Jasper County Courthouse, where narcotics were allegedly placed by Mancilla to later be retrieved by the inmate. Investigators indicate the evidence points to coordination between the suspect and the jailed individual.

In addition to the trafficking investigation, information provided by Rensselaer City Police also led to the recovery of tools and other items connected to a recent burglary at a U-Lock storage facility in the Wheatfield area. That discovery further expanded the scope of the investigation.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department credited Chief Matt Anderson and the Rensselaer City Police Department for their assistance, citing strong interagency cooperation as a key factor in uncovering evidence related to the case.

Officials emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and that no further details are being released at this time to protect the integrity of the case.

Law enforcement officials also reminded the public that all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Anyone with information related to this investigation or other criminal activity in Jasper County is encouraged to contact the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department or local law enforcement.
