Rensselaer, IN – A 36-year-old Illinois man was arrested in Rensselaer after allegedly making violent threats toward hospital staff and police early November 10, according to the Rensselaer Police Department.

Police say the incident began around 1:24 a.m. when officers received a call from Franciscan Hospital reporting a subject in the emergency room threatening to harm staff. The man, identified as Ajaysinh Vaghela of Addison, Illinois, was reportedly intoxicated after being transported to the Indianapolis area via a ride-share from Chicago.

According to authorities, Mr. Vaghela was speaking in Hindi, prompting the use of a translator. During the exchange, the translator reported that Vaghela expressed willingness to kill all responding officers.

After being medically cleared, Vaghela was taken to the Jasper County Jail, where he was booked and charged with five counts of intimidation of law enforcement and medical personnel, classified as Level 5 felonies under Indiana law.

Police confirmed no injuries occurred during the incident. The case remains under investigation.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
