Rensselaer, IN – Late Sunday night, the Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department reported encountering black ice and worsening visibility while responding to a possible rollover crash on I-65 between mile markers 218 and 222.

Fire officials said that while no accident was ultimately found, road conditions deteriorated rapidly during their response. Flurries turned to steady snow with gusty winds, creating slick and icy stretches along the interstate.

“By the time we got back to town, flurries were now solid with wind. Visibility is diminishing,” the department noted in its statement, warning drivers that it’s not a good night to be out on the interstate.

Motorists traveling overnight are urged to reduce speeds, use caution on bridges and overpasses, and be alert for black ice—especially near the Rensselaer and Remington areas. Conditions are expected to remain hazardous into early Monday morning.
