Reno, Nev. – Showers and thunderstorms are making a rare July appearance in Reno today, creating slick roads and possible lightning delays through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, a 50% chance of scattered showers and storms will persist in Reno and surrounding Washoe County neighborhoods until about 8 p.m. tonight. Localized downpours and gusty winds may briefly impact travel on I-580 and other major routes, with outdoor events potentially delayed or disrupted.

Sunday brings another 30% chance of morning showers and thunder before skies gradually clear by midday. After the wet start, the region transitions back to dry, classic Nevada summer weather: highs near 88°F are expected Monday through midweek, with sunny skies and only a slight risk of evening storms Tuesday and Wednesday.

Drivers should watch for wet pavement and changing conditions, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas. Residents are advised to keep mobile devices charged in case of lightning, and to move outdoor activities indoors if thunder is heard.

The threat of storms fades after Sunday night, but isolated showers could return late Tuesday or Wednesday. More updates will follow if new advisories are issued.

Five Day Weather Bullet Points:

  • Saturday: 50% chance of showers/thunderstorms after 11 a.m.; high 82°F.
  • Sunday: 30% chance of morning storms, then sunny; high 85°F.
  • Monday: Sunny, warm, and dry; high 88°F.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, slight evening storm chance; high 89°F.
  • Wednesday: Slight chance of thunderstorms, otherwise sunny; high 87°F.
