RENO, Nev. – A Winter Weather Advisory is winding down this morning across the greater Reno–Carson City–Minden area after a quick burst of early-season snow in the Sierra foothills. Skies are already brightening across the Truckee Meadows, setting the stage for a classic fall rebound heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, snow levels hovered near 6,000 feet early Wednesday with accumulations of one to three inches across mountain passes. Slick roads and reduced visibility briefly affected travel near I-580 and Mount Rose Highway, but improving conditions are expected through midday. Drivers should still use caution in shaded or higher-elevation areas where icy patches may linger.
By this afternoon, sunshine and calm winds will return to the valley, bringing highs in the upper 50s. Temperatures will climb steadily through the week, reaching the mid-60s on Friday and near 70°F by Saturday. The weekend looks ideal for hiking, fall festivals, and outdoor events across western Nevada, with clear skies and light winds persisting through Sunday.
Forecasters expect another weak system to brush the Sierra late Sunday night, but any showers should remain light and confined to elevations above 6,500 feet. Most of Reno and Sparks will stay dry well into next week.
After the region’s first taste of winter, Northern Nevada will quickly bounce back into mild, golden fall weather — perfect timing for those planning pumpkin patch visits or mountain drives before Halloween.
