Reno, Nev. – Northern Nevada will heat up sharply this week, with Reno pushing into the upper 90s by Friday before a late-week thunderstorm threat breaks the dry pattern.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, Tuesday and Wednesday will stay sunny with highs in the low 90s and light afternoon breezes. By Thursday, the region warms to 96°F, climbing to 98°F on Friday under mostly sunny skies. Winds remain mostly calm, but gusts could top 30 mph Tuesday night.

The first shift in weather arrives Friday night, when a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms could develop across Reno, Sparks, and nearby valleys. That storm chance lingers into Saturday and Sunday, though most hours of the weekend will still be partly sunny with highs in the mid-90s.

Travelers should be alert to sudden downpours and gusty winds if storms build late Friday or Saturday, especially in higher terrain east of the Sierra. Officials advise limiting outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat and staying hydrated through the week.

Warm temperatures continue into early next week, with Reno expected to hold near 90°F Monday as scattered showers remain possible.
