Reno, Nev. – Thunderstorms building across western Nevada this afternoon could bring flash flooding, heavy rain, and dangerous lightning from Reno south through Carson City and Minden. The National Weather Service warns storms will begin developing as early as noon Saturday, peaking in intensity into the evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for the Reno-Carson-Minden corridor as well as Mono, Mineral, and Lyon counties. Forecasters say the greatest risk is in burn scar areas, including Davis and Connor, where debris flows are possible. Low-lying roads and flood-prone neighborhoods could also see rapid water rise.
The storm system is expected to bring frequent lightning, gusty winds, small hail, and periods of heavy downpours. Drivers on U.S. 395 and I-580 should prepare for sudden reduced visibility and ponding water. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads, secure outdoor items, and remain weather-aware throughout the evening.
Flash flooding, downed trees, and isolated power outages remain possible until the storms diminish later tonight. Additional advisories may follow if storms redevelop into Sunday.
