Nevada – Streetlights glow against swirling flakes before sunrise as wet snow begins to stick on colder surfaces. The air feels sharp, wind tugs at jackets, and winter Weather conditions are developing quickly across the Reno–Carson City corridor.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through early Friday. Snow spreads across the region today, with the most impactful conditions expected this morning and again this evening. Valley locations, including Reno and Sparks, may see a trace to one inch of snow, while higher elevations above 5,500 feet could collect several inches. Winds gusting 45 to 55 mph along ridges add blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Travel impacts are a key concern. Slick roads may develop quickly on I-80, Highway 395, and Mount Rose Highway, especially during heavier snow bursts. Bridges and overpasses cool fastest and may turn icy even if pavement looks wet. Plan extra time if traveling today and keep speeds reduced.

Snow continues into tonight as temperatures fall near freezing. Conditions may deteriorate after sunset as colder air allows snow to accumulate more efficiently. Gusty winds could knock down small branches and make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles.

Friday brings lingering snow showers, mainly during the first half of the day. Highs reach the mid-40s, though colder air settles in by evening. Friday night turns sharply colder, with lows dropping into the low 20s, increasing the risk for refreeze and black ice.

The weekend offers improvement. Saturday turns mostly sunny and calmer, with highs near the low 40s. Saturday night remains cold, dipping into the teens. Sunday stays dry and bright, though morning cold persists with lows in the mid-teens and highs near 40.

Looking ahead to Monday, dry winter Weather holds, but chilly mornings continue. For now, slow down on snow-covered roads, secure loose items, and monitor updates closely. Winter has clearly arrived in northern Nevada just as post-Christmas travel ramps up.
