Reno, NV – Dangerous triple-digit heat will grip much of Northern Nevada starting Monday, with the hottest conditions expected Tuesday afternoon as highs climb to 105° in lower valleys. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory through 9 a.m. Wednesday for Reno, Sparks, Carson City, and surrounding areas, warning of a high risk for heat-related illnesses.
According to the National Weather Service Reno office, the advisory covers the Western Nevada Basin, Northern Washoe County, Greater Reno-Carson City area, and parts of the Eastern Sierra and Surprise Valley in California. Overnight lows will remain warm, ranging from the upper 60s in valleys to the mid-70s in warmer basins, offering little relief from the heat.
Officials urge residents to drink plenty of water, stay in air-conditioned spaces, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. Outdoor workers and those without adequate cooling should limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening hours. The most intense heat is expected below 4,500 feet, with slightly cooler readings in higher elevations.
The advisory expires Wednesday morning, but summer heat will linger, with highs in the mid-90s through late week. More updates will be issued if conditions change.
