Reno, NV – A section of I-580 southbound near Mt. Rose Highway (SR 431) was closed Sunday evening after a semi-truck overturned amid strong winds, according to the Nevada State Police.
The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on October 26, prompting a full closure of the southbound lanes. Authorities said the closure is expected to last at least two to three hours, though recovery could be delayed due to ongoing extremely high winds that are preventing safe movement of the vehicle.
Troopers warned that the closure could extend overnight if wind speeds remain too dangerous for tow crews to upright and remove the semi from the roadway.
Drivers traveling through the area are urged to use alternate routes and to expect delays along I-580 between Reno and Washoe Valley. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Updates on the reopening of the highway will be provided by Nevada State Police – Highway Patrol as conditions improve.
