Reno, NV – The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the Northern Sierra Front, including Carson City, Douglas, and surrounding counties. The alert is set for Thursday afternoon through Thursday evening, as gusty winds and low humidity increase the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service, winds are expected to reach 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph in wind-prone areas. Humidity levels will drop as low as 11%, creating critical fire conditions. The watch covers Fire Weather Zone 420, which includes regions such as Southern Washoe and Western Lyon Counties.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities that could spark fires, such as using power tools or lighting campfires. Fire restrictions are in place, and updates can be found at weather.gov/reno. The conditions are expected to last 3 to 5 hours, during which any fires that start could grow rapidly and become difficult to control before first responders can act.
