Reno, Nevada – Strong winds and dry air are creating dangerous fire conditions and hazardous lake travel across Northern Nevada today, Monday, June 16. A Red Flag Warning and Lake Wind Advisory are both in effect until 10–11 p.m., bringing gusts up to 45 mph and elevated wildfire risk along major corridors like US-395.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, the Red Flag Warning includes Carson City, Douglas County, Storey, Lyon, and Washoe Counties, where west winds between 20–25 mph may gust as high as 45 mph. Humidity will bottom out between 5–15%, making any spark — from yard work, campfires, or vehicles — capable of igniting fast-moving fires. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and check restrictions at weather.gov/reno.

The Lake Wind Advisory covers Pyramid Lake, Lahontan Reservoir, Topaz Lake, and Bridgeport Reservoir through 10 p.m. Monday. Boaters, especially those using kayaks or paddleboards, should stay off the water to avoid capsizing in 2-foot waves.

Tuesday through Thursday looks calmer but much hotter. Reno will reach 89°F Tuesday, 95°F Wednesday, and a sweltering 92°F on Juneteenth. Conditions stay dry, with light winds returning by midweek.

Five-Day Forecast for Reno (June 16–21):

  • Monday: High 85°F, windy with Red Flag and Lake Wind warnings until evening
  • Tuesday: Sunny, high near 89°F
  • Wednesday: Sunny and hot, high near 95°F
  • Thursday (Juneteenth): Clear, high around 92°F
  • Friday: Mostly clear, cooler overnight, high near 87°F

⚠️ Next Update: Watch for new advisories if winds continue or fire danger worsens Tuesday.
