Reno, Nev. – Thunderstorms will ramp up across northern Nevada beginning Friday, with daily storm chances lasting into next week as monsoonal moisture pushes north from the Four Corners region.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, storms will become more active starting Friday afternoon, especially south of U.S. 50, before spreading north through the weekend. The biggest risks include dry lightning, new fire starts, and localized flash flooding from wetter storms into next week.

Communities from Reno to Fallon and Elko should prepare for sudden downpours and strong lightning strikes that may impact travel on Interstate 80 and U.S. 395. Emergency officials warn that cloud cover could limit activity on certain days, but isolated stronger storms may still flare up without much warning.

Drivers are urged to avoid low-lying roads where flooding is possible and residents should be ready for sudden power outages. Fire danger also remains high, particularly in areas that see more lightning than rainfall.

Storm chances are expected to continue well into next week, with additional weather advisories possible as the monsoon pattern lingers.
