Reno, Nevada – Early Monday plans across northern Nevada could be soaked as widespread rain and thunder roll into the Reno-Sparks area by mid-morning. Drivers along I-580 may face delays from standing water or brief bursts of heavy rain between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, there’s a 70% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms between late morning and early afternoon Monday. Expect a high of 87°F, but any sunshine will be short-lived as clouds dominate and isolated cells roll through Washoe County. Winds will shift northwest at 5 mph before calming overnight. Rain chances continue into Monday night, dipping to a 60% chance of showers before midnight.

While Tuesday offers a bit of relief, a 50% chance of rain returns by midday. Drier skies should arrive by Wednesday afternoon, but early morning rain and thunder can’t be ruled out.

Outdoor plans Monday through Tuesday should include backup options. Drivers should slow down during storms, especially along slick roadways like I-580 and U.S. 395. Use caution during sudden downpours and avoid flooded intersections.

More organized sunshine and drier air move in Thursday and Friday, setting up a calmer end to August.

Warnings remain in effect through Tuesday. Check for updates from the National Weather Service before heading out.
