Reno, Nevada – Western Nevada residents should prepare for a wintry finish to Thanksgiving weekend, as bitter morning temperatures and gusty winds settle in from Sunday through early Monday. Areas around Reno, Carson City, and the Sierra valleys could see lows dip into the teens, with wind chills making it feel even colder.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, Sunday will be the coldest day across the region due to increased northeast ridge winds. Daytime highs will remain in the 40s and low 50s, but gusts will pick up especially in the Sierra valleys—including South Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, and Mammoth Lakes—where early mornings may feel near freezing. Dry skies will dominate, though a brief round of morning snow flurries is possible north of Lovelock on Sunday.

Drivers heading over mountain passes or traveling through open valley roads should be prepared for strong crosswinds and reduced visibility due to blowing dust. Layer up early in the day and limit outdoor exposure in the early morning hours, especially for vulnerable groups.

The cold trend will continue into Monday, with widespread lows in the teens and 20s and little wind relief. A warming shift isn’t expected until midweek.
