Nevada — Crisp morning air drifts across the Truckee Meadows as sunlight spreads over the Sierra foothills. The calm start will not last long. A rapid warmup is underway across western Nevada, and temperatures will climb quickly through the afternoon as an early-season heat surge strengthens across the West.
According to the National Weather Service in Reno, high pressure building across the western United States will push temperatures well above normal through midweek. The warming pattern will steadily intensify, producing one of the warmest stretches of weather so far this March.
Reno climbs to around 77°F today, already a noticeable jump from the cool morning temperatures near the lower 40s. The warming accelerates Tuesday with highs reaching around 83°F, followed by near 85°F Wednesday as clear skies dominate northern Nevada.
Drivers along Interstate 80, US-395, and Pyramid Highway will see bright sunshine and dry pavement during afternoon travel. However, the strong March sun will warm roads and parking areas quickly by late afternoon.
Communities across the Truckee Meadows, Sparks, and Sun Valley will experience similar conditions. Calm winds and strong sunshine will allow temperatures to rise efficiently across the valley floor.
Meteorologists say the same ridge of high pressure driving extreme warmth across California is expanding east into Nevada. This system is expected to deliver widespread above-normal temperatures across the Great Basin through midweek.
Despite the warm afternoons, overnight conditions will remain cool. Temperatures fall into the mid-40s to near 50°F, providing comfortable evenings before the next sunny day begins.
By Thursday, Reno could reach around 86°F, an unusually warm temperature for mid-March in northern Nevada.
