Reno, Nevada – Outdoor plans across northern Nevada could be disrupted within hours as showers and thunderstorms develop between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., bringing lightning and brief downpours through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, isolated storms will expand through the afternoon, with activity continuing until around 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The highest storm chances, between 35% and 45%, are expected across areas including Susanville, Eagle Lake, Mono Lake, and Hawthorne.

Lightning risk will be more limited but still notable, with a 20% to 25% chance focused in Lassen County and northern Washoe County, including areas north of Reno.

Storms may produce brief heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and occasional lightning strikes, creating rapidly changing conditions for drivers along U.S. 395 and nearby rural roads. Visibility could drop quickly in heavier showers.

Residents are urged to move indoors if thunder is heard and secure loose outdoor items ahead of gusty winds. Travelers should remain alert for slick roads and sudden weather shifts.

Storm chances taper off later this evening, but additional unsettled conditions remain possible in the coming days.
