San Antonio, TX – Critical fire weather conditions are expected across much of South and Central Texas today as strong winds and dry air combine to heighten wildfire danger. The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT Wednesday, Oct. 29, for areas along and south of Interstate 10, U.S. Highway 57, and the Coastal Plains.
According to the NWS, northwest winds of 15–25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity levels as low as 14% will create critical fire danger conditions through late afternoon. The warning includes portions of Bandera, Bexar, Medina, Comal, Guadalupe, Atascosa, Karnes, and Lavaca Counties, among others.
Officials warn that any fires that develop could spread rapidly, becoming difficult or impossible to contain. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and refrain from using equipment that may produce sparks.
Winds are expected to ease slightly overnight, but dry conditions will continue into Thursday, maintaining an elevated fire risk.
