Kansas City, MO – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for parts of Missouri and Kansas from noon to 8 p.m. CDT today due to dangerous fire weather conditions. The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill warns that dry, hot, and windy conditions could lead to rapidly spreading fires.

The affected areas include eastern Kansas and northwestern, north-central, and central Missouri, covering counties such as Macon, Chariton, Randolph, Saline, Howard, Pettis, Cooper, Henry, Atchison, Buchanan, Jackson, and others. According to the NWS, southwest winds will range from 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. Relative humidity is expected to drop between 15 and 25 percent, further increasing fire risk.

Officials strongly advise against outdoor burning during this period. Any fire that ignites could spread quickly due to the combination of dry fuels, low humidity, and strong winds. Residents are urged to exercise caution with activities that could spark flames, such as using machinery, discarding cigarette butts improperly, or burning debris.

The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight. Residents should stay informed through local authorities and the National Weather Service for updates on fire weather conditions.
