Houston, TX — Southeast Texas is gearing up for another round of unseasonably warm temperatures today, with multiple locations expected to come within just a few degrees of record highs — and some areas likely to tie or break longstanding records. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Houston/Galveston, the city of Houston and Hobby Airport both carry 85–90% probabilities of reaching their respective daily records of 86°F later this afternoon.

Even Galveston and Palacios, while less likely to set new records, will still push well above typical mid-November values.

But the warmth won’t last for long. Forecasters are already watching a developing system that will bring a line of showers and thunderstorms across southeast Texas late Thursday night into early Friday. While widespread flooding isn’t expected, storms may produce locally heavy rainfall, especially in areas that fall under a Marginal (Level 1/4) or Slight (Level 2/4) risk of excessive rainfall. The Slight Risk currently extends into parts of the Brazos Valley, a zone where repeated downpours could overwhelm drainage.

Timing-wise, the best chance for heavier rain will arrive Thursday night through Friday morning. Rainfall becomes spottier and lighter as the system exits into the weekend.

Impacts are expected to remain manageable overall, but minor flooding is possible in low-lying or poor drainage areas if the most intense rain rates occur. Gusty winds and even a very low chance of a brief, weak tornado remain secondary concerns.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware, especially heading into late week as the pattern transitions from heat to storms.
