Jackson, MS – Parts of Mississippi saw record-breaking cool weather Monday as temperatures struggled to climb, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson.
The NWS reported that Hattiesburg reached only 52 degrees at the Bobby Chain Airport on Monday, November 10, breaking the previous record “cool high” of 53 degrees set in 2018. Meanwhile, Greenwood also set a record cool high of 44 degrees, tying a record originally set on the same date back in 1950.
According to meteorologists, a strong cold front that moved through the region over the weekend ushered in unusually cool air for mid-November. Daytime highs across much of central and southern Mississippi remained well below normal, with many residents experiencing conditions more typical of early winter.
Forecasters say temperatures are expected to gradually warm later in the week, but another round of cool air could return by the weekend.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for updates and to take precautions against early-season cold, especially during overnight lows.
