Dillwyn, Virginia – A rare East Coast earthquake measuring 3.0 in magnitude rattled the area just south of Dillwyn, Virginia, on Tuesday afternoon. The tremor, which had a depth of 8 km, was felt in parts of central Virginia, including the Richmond metro area.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at approximately 5:08 p.m. UTC, with vibrations reaching several nearby communities. While East Coast earthquakes are uncommon, the tremor was noticeable in Richmond and surrounding areas, especially along the I-64 corridor.
The USGS has launched a “Did You Feel It?” survey to gather data on residents’ experiences. No major damage has been reported, although local officials are monitoring the situation closely for any aftershocks.
