Jackson, MS – The National Weather Service in Jackson is warning of a dramatic temperature drop this weekend as a surge of Arctic air sweeps into Mississippi.
After a mild Saturday with highs in the 50s and 60s, temperatures are expected to plunge 35 to 45 degrees by Monday morning, reaching the teens and 20s across much of the state.
Forecasters call this a “weekend weather whiplash,” urging residents to prepare now for dangerous cold by protecting exposed pipes, outdoor faucets, and sensitive plants. The NWS also stresses ensuring pets, friends, and family have safe, warm shelter through the freezing conditions.
The cold front will push through late Sunday, with strong northwest winds and sharply falling temperatures expected Sunday night into early Monday.
Officials advise taking precautions before the weekend ends, as the sudden freeze could cause pipe bursts, frost damage, and hazardous conditions for those unprepared.
