Rapid City, SD – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across western South Dakota and portions of northeast Wyoming until 11 a.m. MST Saturday, as snow and gusty winds create hazardous driving conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City.
Forecasters say snow totals will range from 2 to 5 inches across the Black Hills, Rapid City area, and surrounding plains, with localized blowing snow reducing visibility overnight. Winds may gust up to 45 mph, particularly across open areas of Meade, Butte, Ziebach, and Perkins counties.
The advisory covers multiple regions, including Rapid City, Sturgis, Belle Fourche, Custer, Wall, Philip, and Gillette, extending south toward Pine Ridge and Winner. The heaviest snowfall is expected through the early morning hours Saturday, tapering by midday.
Officials urge drivers to slow down and use caution, as slippery roads and patchy whiteout conditions could make travel difficult. Commuters and holiday travelers are advised to check 511 road condition updates before heading out.
The system marks the first widespread snow event of the post-Thanksgiving period, ushering in a colder, breezy weekend across the Black Hills and western plains.
