Raleigh, North Carolina – Fire danger is ramping up across central North Carolina today as temperatures surge into the mid-80s and gusty winds combine with dry ground conditions through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, an increased fire danger is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. across the region, including Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, and Fayetteville. High temperatures are running 15 to 20 degrees above normal, while low humidity and occasional wind gusts create conditions favorable for rapid fire spread.

A statewide burn ban remains in place, prohibiting all open burning. Officials warn that dry grasses and leaf litter can ignite quickly, especially during peak heating hours this afternoon.

While most of central North Carolina will stay dry, a few isolated showers could develop near the Triad region later today, though they are not expected to significantly reduce fire risk. Areas along I-40, I-85, and surrounding communities should remain especially cautious with any potential ignition sources.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarettes, and secure equipment that could spark. Elevated fire danger will persist through this evening, with additional updates possible if conditions worsen.
