Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued an Increased Fire Danger Statement for much of central North Carolina on Wednesday, October 22, between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Forecasters warn that gusty westerly winds of 20 to 25 mph, with occasional gusts up to 30 mph, combined with relative humidity as low as 25–30% and recent dry weather, will create conditions favorable for the rapid spread of fire.
“Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged,” the Weather Service emphasized, noting that even small fires could quickly get out of control under Wednesday’s dry and breezy conditions. The alert covers a wide area, including the Triangle, Sandhills, and parts of the Piedmont.
Winds are expected to ease Wednesday evening as cooler, more stable air moves into the region. Until then, residents are advised to postpone any planned burning and to properly extinguish cigarettes and outdoor fire pits.
