Raleigh, NC – A chill will settle over central North Carolina late Tuesday night as the National Weather Service issues a Frost Advisory for rural areas surrounding Raleigh, lasting through 9 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service Raleigh office, the advisory covers the Piedmont and northern Sandhills, including counties such as Alamance, Person, Moore, and Chatham. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the mid-30s, prompting concerns about frost formation, especially in rural and outlying zones.
Patchy frost could damage sensitive vegetation, especially in areas outside urban centers. Residents with gardens or outdoor plants are advised to cover or bring them indoors. Farmers and agricultural workers across these counties should take extra precautions to protect crops.
While daytime highs will remain seasonably cool in the mid-60s to low 70s, the clear skies and calm winds expected overnight create ideal conditions for frost to develop. This event is notable as mid-April typically trends warmer in the region, but late-season frost events have occurred in past years.
The advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday. Motorists should allow extra time in the morning, as frost could reduce visibility on rural roads. Updates and safety tips are available at weather.gov/raleigh.
