A quiet and seasonably warm Wednesday is in store for central North Carolina as temperatures rise into the upper 50s to lower 60s, according to the National Weather Service Raleigh office. While skies will remain mostly cloudy, forecasters say the day will stay dry thanks to stable conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, metro Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and surrounding communities can expect afternoon highs between 58° and 62°, a few degrees above mid-December averages. Cloud cover will persist throughout the day, but winds remain light and no precipitation is expected through tonight.
The warmer air mass continues a modest midweek warming trend following recent cooler days. Moisture will stay limited today, helping maintain dry conditions despite the cloudier skies.
Overnight, temperatures will fall into the lower 30s to lower 40s, with mostly cloudy skies continuing. A few locations northwest of the Triangle may briefly dip near freezing before sunrise Thursday, though no impacts are expected.
The forecast becomes more unsettled later in the week as a developing system approaches from the west, bringing increasing chances for rain Thursday night into Friday. For now, Wednesday remains one of the calmer days in the forecast cycle, offering mild temperatures for holiday errands, commuting, and outdoor activities.
Residents can expect above-normal temperatures to continue into Thursday before wetter weather arrives.
