Raleigh, N.C. – Spotty thunderstorms could bring slick roads and brief downpours across central North Carolina starting Monday afternoon, with the storm threat returning again by midweek. Temperatures will stay hot, with highs in the 90s through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a 30% chance of showers and storms develops Monday after 2 p.m., with rainfall amounts generally under a quarter of an inch. A second round of thunderstorms is possible overnight Monday into early Tuesday. Wednesday also carries a slight risk of afternoon storms.

Travelers on I-40, U.S. 1, and U.S. 64 should prepare for reduced visibility and ponding on roads during heavier downpours. Power flickers and brief outages are possible in isolated storms. The weather service advises avoiding outdoor activities during afternoon lightning and ensuring mobile devices are charged ahead of potential power interruptions.

Drier air briefly returns Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s. Another unsettled stretch arrives heading into the weekend as storm chances rise again Friday and Saturday.

Storm chances continue into early next week, with the weather service expected to issue additional updates as patterns shift.
