Raleigh, N.C. – Heavy rain could once again lead to isolated flooding across central North Carolina today, with the highest risk between early afternoon and early evening. Quick rises in creeks and streams, along with ponding on roads, are possible as showers and storms move through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, most locations can expect a quarter to half an inch of rain, with some areas seeing 1 to 3 inches where storms linger. Urban areas and low-lying spots face the greatest flooding threat, particularly from Cary to Rocky Mount and down through Fayetteville.
Drivers are urged to slow down to reduce hydroplaning risk and to avoid flooded roadways. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains key advice for anyone encountering water over the road. Conditions could be hazardous on I-40, I-85, and local surface streets during peak rainfall periods.
Storm chances taper off later tonight, but additional rainfall is possible midweek. Residents should stay alert for flash flood warnings.
