RALEIGH, N.C. – While rain chances are dropping across central North Carolina, residents should remain alert for isolated flooding through Friday evening. The National Weather Service says slow drainage in low-lying areas and already saturated ground could lead to minor flooding in some communities.
According to the Weather Prediction Center, most locations will see rain probabilities decline to under 40% by late afternoon, but brief heavier showers are still possible, especially between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Cities such as Roanoke Rapids, Goldsboro, and Rocky Mount could see the highest remaining rainfall chances, topping 50% during peak hours.
Motorists are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways, even if the water appears shallow. Urban areas, creeks, and streams may rise quickly after any downpour. Emergency managers advise keeping a charged phone handy and monitoring local alerts.
The flood risk should ease late tonight as showers diminish, though more unsettled weather could develop this weekend.
