Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued an Increased Fire Danger Statement for all of central North Carolina today, warning of heightened wildfire risk due to dry, breezy weather conditions. The alert is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with outdoor burning strongly discouraged.

According to the National Weather Service, westerly winds of 20–25 mph — with occasional gusts up to 30 mph — combined with relative humidity levels between 25% and 30% and prolonged dry weather, will create conditions favorable for rapid fire spread.

Residents are urged to avoid burning leaves, brush, or debris and to use extra caution with equipment that could generate sparks, such as lawnmowers or grills. Local officials may issue temporary burn bans as the day progresses.

Forecasters expect conditions to gradually improve overnight as winds diminish and humidity levels recover. Temperatures will remain near seasonal norms through the remainder of the week.
